No cost to participate, however a $5.00 donation will help support VFLNA activities

VFLNA is working with the City of Vancouver to bring you the 2026 VFLNA Clean-Up Day. This is an opportunity to get rid of items too bulky to fit in your trash cans. NOTE: We are looking for volunteers to help to process the flow of people and items brought to the event. If you have a little time please contact the VFLNA Board by clicking the button below.

Neighborhood Cleanup: Large Item Pickup Service

Dennis Hite has generously offered to transport large items from neighborhood homes to the Neighborhood Cleanup site at the school on April 11th. The cost is $20 cash, which will be donated directly to the VFLNA.
When Dennis arrives at a homeowner’s driveway, the homeowner is responsible for loading the items onto his trailer. At the school, City staff will handle the unloading.
To schedule a pickup, homeowners should contact Dennis by text or phone at 503‑849‑5649.

Reminders:

For safety at the event, please remind all participants to follow the lead of the drivers and stay away from the “hot zone”: the compactor, back of trucks, and the scrap metal box. Scrap metal recycling should be handled by drivers.
Please help us in reminding neighbors that cleanup events are intended for bulky items that are too large for a cart. Large loads of home garbage or home project/remodel debris are not accepted.

What’s Accepted?

Bulky Items

Broken or worn out items that are too large to fit in your garbage cart at home, such as a rug, kiddie pool, small appliances, furniture, broom, etc.

Scrap Metal

Metal BBQs, bicycles, lawn furniture, mowers, car parts or small engines (drained of fluids) metal appliances (no Freon containing items – no fridge or freezers, AC units)

Yard Debris

Branches, grass, leaves, vines, bramble, arborvitae, juniper, bamboo, yard and garden trimmings
Truck from a local non-profit
Volunteers will collect appropriate items from 9:30 to noon.

What’s NOT Accepted?

NO Household trash or contractor waste
NO Large or heavy quantities of concrete, cement, rocks, sod or dirt
NO Home project/remodel debris (i.e. flooring tiles, drywall, large amounts of fencing, etc.)
NO Roofing shingles or roofing materials
NO Hazardous chemicals, cleaners, paints or stains, fluids like gasoline or oil
NO TVs, computers or electronics (recycle for free, visit www.EcycleWashington.org for locations)
NO CFL or fluorescent tube lights (recycle for free visit www.LightRecycle.org for locations)
NO REALLY LARGE items like boats and hot tubs should be hauled directly to the transfer station at the owner’s expense.
Reference flyers in clipboard to find depots for items not accepted at the cleanup.

Prepare Your Load:

Categorize your load – separate material for easy unloading into the bulky item truck, yard debris box or truck, or metals box
Use a tarp liner under the yard debris for faster and cleaner unloading
Put the yard debris on the bottom, then the big stuff (furniture), then the other stuff tucked in around the big stuff
Don’t forget to cover your load to prevent littering if you bring a truck or trailer

Come prepared to unload what you bring to the cleanup (i.e. leather gloves and tools to unload)
To prevent injuries, please bring heavy materials, such as yard debris, in smaller containers or wheel barrels. Do not bring your curbside cart to the cleanup, as they are too heavy to dump.
